If you want to breed you need a house and a mate. This male is telling EVERYONE where he lives and that this spot is his. He has a mate but she had not come home just yet.
Our yellow-eyed penguin boys are busy occupying nests even during the day in preparation of the new breeding season that is going to start in a couple of weeks. This sponsored nests has clearly found favour with one and he has been busy carrying in nesting material. We are not sure who this is yet, as we try to stay away. We'll know soon enough.....
The pair we have been spying on certainly seem to like their fancy blue box and are singing together claiming it as theirs. At this time it is important to make sure everyone in the neighbourhood knows they own it. Molly used to live in this house - alas her mate died unfortunately but we have no reason to believe she is also no longer with us - but where? Not in her old house - that has been occupied by seal pups recently. Surely she will have found a beautiful bachelor with his own house and moved in with him. Again, time will tell where and with whom she shows up!
