This season Janet found herself a new mate because her previous mate did not come home. She picked a good one because they managed to raise a couple of chicks very well - until they were taken to kindergarten. Here they are close to being released and looking great.
These two have a famous father who has featured here on FB for some years now. He himself is in rehab at the moment with his mate preparing for the moult the lazy way - while his two offspring are off learning how to catch fish.
These two were incubated in Flipper Palace by Chicky and her mate and then moved on - first into Casa Lola and then behind Casa Lola while the parent was on the roof!
These two grew up in this sponsored box and did very well. We have not spotted their parents yet, but they will be appearing soon for their annual moult.
The parents of this chick had occupied this sponsored box. We have seen the parents moulting around a different box at the moment - that is how it goes with yellow-eyed penguins. They do not necessarily stick with the same box for breeding and moulting.
We still have some photos of chicks that have a sponsor or are the offspring of sponsored penguins. Although all chicks have now left after their stint in the soft-release pens, they feature here as an update for the sponsors.
So, this is Bri's chick. Bri started with two but unfortunately one did not make it when it was real little. But this one has done well and is off! This was another fortunate chick from last season who was sponsored and it came back. It's now on a strict salmon all-you-can-gobble-down diet to see it through the moult. It may not have been fat enough for the moult, but it is alive which means it does know how to catch fish. No worries about the post-moult survival here!
Ciara had left Stewie Junior and their Uncle Chang's box and ran off with the gorgeous neighbour who lived in Felicity's box and they had this chick together. It joined the kindergarten with everyone else and this was her a couple of weeks ago almost ready to be released. She is now released and is hopefully finding plenty of food out there. Good luck little buddy!
is also back - and back in rehab! This chick from last summer was kind sponsored and has returned to us with a need for a few fish to prepare for the annual moult - and how could we refuse: what a gorgeous bird!
