Our spy cameras have captured some delightful penguin behaviour but others trigger them as well: here a group of New Zealand seal pups are in a huge hurry to go someplace - and they use the penguin access ramp as a slide!! A whole family of yellow-eyed penguins has chosen the top of a box to rest in the evening: one adult is snoozing, one adult is preening one chick and the other chick is also snoozing. Evening family bliss on the rooftop!
Here is a another use for yellow-eyed penguin nest boxes. This time and adult and its chick have parked on top this past summer. Their view from the nest was already spectacular but there was something special about being on top!!
Our yellow-eyed penguin nest boxes are multi-purpose: the penguins nest very successfully in them and the seal pups love sitting on top of them: king of the castle!
![]() This morning it was much more important for this yellow-eyed penguin to be at home and shout about it than going fishing. He did have the company of 3 other birds who had the same thought. Food seems to be so abundant at the moment that a day off ashore is of no consequence and if there is shouting to do at home, why not stay and be heard! |
