In summer 1993/94 Diesel Dick and Sweetpea had their first chicks and both survived and bred for many years. One - now to be known as "Kiri" has featured quite a few times on our FB blog because she is such a special girl: aka Mrs 116 recently had a stint in hospital with her mate during the moult and featured here on FB on 9, 12 and 15 May. She is 23 now and there is no reason why she could not be back and produce more chicks this coming season.
Both chicks were female - albeit unusually large ones - so maybe the second one could be called Jona - has also bred with us for many years but she has not been sighted now since the 2014/15 season, so she got to 21 years old. That is very impressive. They ended up being very important contributors to the yellow-eyed penguin population at Moeraki. Penguin Rescue raises money for the penguins through sponsorship and 100% of donations/sponsorships are used to benefit the penguins.
