Maybe she should be re-named Elizabeth Taylor: she is now breeding in her 5th season and she is on mate no. 4....The only one she stuck with for more than one season was the first one. Her mate from last season has hooked up with Ming though, so he's all right. Her current mate was with Cooper in the Fitness Bank last season, and Cooper unfortunately is one of two females that did not come back in spring. Bequette in the meantime is slowly moving southwards and appears to have no preference for A-frame or rectangular boxes....one has to wonder what's going on in the head there.....
He was not pleased that we wanted to have a wee look at what was under his belly on this day - but there it was....This time they are in the forest where it is lot cooler for them than up the hill in last season's box. We expect them to raise a couple of chicks - but they are due any day now.
He still has the same mate, the same house and two eggs to fuss with. We are rather pleased with the taupata bush growing next to his box: it is finally big enough to give him some decent shade. This box can get a bit hot on a sunny day.
A late notice here: Bri has two chicks - hatched in the last day or so. She was the first to lay eggs - so naturally she is the first to have chicks - very tiny and no photos just yet. Fingers and toes crossed! |
