They have one chick they are raising in Jonathan's Pengies box - apologies to the sponsor, the name of your box fell off and we didn't want to re-attach it just yet, because it might frighten the chick. So it's propped up against some logs behind it. In the meantime, the chick is getting bigger every day - it still seems small compared to the others, it was the last to hatch - like very year, Vivek is the last to lay her eggs......
They have two chicks and they have names: introducing David and Asta. It was feeding time and the chicks didn't care that the photographer was hiding in the bushes taking photos. So, it was open up wide for Shaju and up came the yummy food for the chicks. Check out that tummy!
This is Stitches old mate - she unfortunately didn't return this season - and he has a new mate and two chicks. One of them was a bit more adventurous and was hiding behind the box, while the other one was inside. They are doing very well and growing every day!
Two brown fluff balls are keeping Ming and Peanut busy this season. They have now grown enough to occasionally ventured out of their fancy blue box and have a stagger about outside. Ming is super protective - you can tell it's her in the photo from the scars she has on her left flipper.
For those of you unfamiliar, the term bach is a small holiday place in New Zealand - generally associated with good times at nearby beaches, although you could have a bach in the mountains.....
Anyway, Bri lives in Bri's Bach and is raising one chick with her mate. True to the name of the box, it is a funny square job but she liked it! These two got the trail camera for a week and we got a lot of footage (over 1000 videos) of wonderful natural behaviour of the return of the parents, greetings, feeding and family life. Enjoy! And turn on the sound! The chicks have now reached an age when we can start the adoptions. If you have already adopted a chick and are waiting for a certificate, it will arrive in your inbox in the next few days. If you want to adopt please go to https://www.penguinrescue.nz/donate.html and leave a message. If you want to adopt a chick from a particular adult, please specify and I will be in touch to discuss if needed. You can also get in touch with a message on the FB page. In the meantime enjoy the family video! and her mate have got a natural nest site and so far - fingers crossed - her two chicks are doing well. She is only three years old, just like her mate, and they have chosen a nest site at the base of an old tree.
yes, both eggs hatched!!! You'all know how hard he worked to achieve this! On this day Meghan was off fishing and dad was very protective of his two wee fluff balls.
She left Spencer to be with Derek (who has been very patiently waiting for a mate....) and their two chicks are grown now so we can see them. Mum was home on this day and immediately squatted closely over the chick when we came to check if they were ok. They were, all is well in Nikita's nest 2.
have finally managed to get their chicks over the line and we are very hopeful that all is well now for them. They have two chicks - although one was hiding on this day.
