Sponsor a starving, sick or injured penguin
On average each penguin needs $5 worth of food and medication each day when it is at our rehabilitation facility. On average each penguin stays about 3 weeks although it can be much longer depending on the reasons it needs care. At Penguin Rescue rehab facility we prefer to feed salmon (20cm long) as this enables a penguin to gain 1kg per week once it has been cured of any sickness and any wounds are healing. You can sponsor a penguin for its stay in rehab for $150 - and you can name it too. We will send you details and post updates on FB. |
Buy a tree to give shade to a penguin $50
Yellow-eyed penguins can spend days and even weeks in the cold ocean but on land they can overheat on sunny summer days and like to sit in a bit of shade. While our nest boxes provide this we also plant many trees and you can contribute to this habitat restoration by purchasing a tree. It will get planted in our penguin colony with fertilizer tablets and is fitted with a protective ring to prevent rabbits or sheep from eating it. If required we will also water it to ensure its survival. We have a great variety of trees - let us know if you have a specific wish - maybe we have it in our nursery and can oblige!! |
Buy one micro-chip: $12
Every breeding adult, every chick and every penguin in rehab are marked with a transponder or chip that has a unique 12 digit number. They are inserted with a needle under the skin in the neck of the penguin and are read with a transponder reader. This allows us to identify each penguin and record its history providing vital data on breeding success and survival. |
