This wee boy is looking after a dummy this season because his mate Danni did not come back. She had been in rehab for a long time, and we released her in good health. Alas she did not return and so Holger is having the year off.
And yes, we have chicks and we busy treating Diphtheria. Soon there will be updates and photos - promise!! Remember these two? Sure you do! Their box got an older sponsorship because the nest box named Harris Family was demolished by seal pups, the number went to Barney's nest and the name attached to Mr Paddles and Meghan's nest! Funny how that goes. The demolished nest box could not be resurrected hence the rearranging - oh well, that's life!
Hollie left him for the neighbour up the hill but he is holding on to his box: it has been used by many pairs, not just him, so it's one that pleases the ladies - although clearly Hollie had a better offer for this season. Rocco is looking after a dummy egg this season so that he doesn't go visiting Hollie and her new chicks. Can't have that: fighting among the adults can easily kill chicks.
She is back with her mate and two eggs that are due to hatch about now. Summer has arrived with baby penguins on the way!
He is quite illusive. We only really get to see and identify him at this time of year. He has a nest and territory but so far no mate. That egg he is guarding is a dummy so that he doesn't bother the breeding pairs - just in case he gets jealous. He is not always there when we check as he has to go fishing as well. Maybe one day he will meet a pretty penguin lady on his way to the beach and persuade her to come with him!
